This page explains, plainly, what data Magnetic collects, why, who else can see it, and how you take back control. It is written to be read, not to be signed unread.
Magnetic is published by Charles NKUNA WA NKUNA, a natural person, 10 BP 500 Ouagadougou 10, Burkina Faso.
For any question about your data: contact@magnetic-app.com.
| Data | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | It is your account identifier. It is how you sign in, using a one-time code. | When you create your account |
| Display name, username, bio, profile photo, banner, "from", "lives in", language, availability | To build your profile, as you choose to show it. All optional except the display name. | When you fill them in |
| Your posts, comments, reactions, messages — text, photos, voice messages, documents | This is the content you create, and what makes the service. | Each time you send |
| Your groups and memberships | To run group conversations. | When you join |
| Who you follow, who follows you, who you block, what you report | To build your feed, enforce your blocks, handle reports. | On each action |
| Delivery and read receipts, last seen, online status | To show ticks and presence. You can switch off last seen and online status in Account → Privacy. | As you use the app |
| View counts on your posts | To give you a sense of their reach. Never by name: nobody sees who viewed what. | On display |
| IP address and device type at sign-in | Account security and abuse limits (request quotas). | At each sign-in |
| Your consents | To record what you agreed to, and when. | When you agree |
This list matters as much as the previous one.
Something we would rather tell you ourselves: your messages are NOT end-to-end encrypted.
They travel over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and are stored on protected servers, but they are readable on our servers. Technically we could read them; we do not, except where the law requires it. Do not trust Magnetic with anything you would not trust to an ordinary messaging service.
We do not claim end-to-end encryption, and we will not until it is genuinely in place.
We do not sell or rent your data. We rely on four providers, solely to run the service:
| Provider | Role | What it sees |
|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud (France, Roubaix) | Hosts the server and the database | All service data, on a technical basis |
| Cloudflare R2 | Stores photos, voice messages and documents | The files you send |
| MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) | Provides the temperatures shown | Nothing about you: we request the weather for a city from a fixed list, with no personal data |
| Migadu | Delivers mail for contact@magnetic-app.com | The content of messages you send us |
Data is hosted in France.
Step-by-step instructions are on the Delete my account page.
At any time you may:
Write to contact@magnetic-app.com. We reply within 30 days. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may contact your competent data protection authority.
Magnetic is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data; if we learn that an account belongs to a younger child, we delete it.
If we change this policy materially, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
