Privacy policy

This page explains, plainly, what data Magnetic collects, why, who else can see it, and how you take back control. It is written to be read, not to be signed unread.

Who is responsible

Magnetic is published by Charles NKUNA WA NKUNA, a natural person, 10 BP 500 Ouagadougou 10, Burkina Faso.

What we collect

What we do not collect

This list matters as much as the previous one.

No location data. The app never asks for your position, and does not hold permission to read it. The city shown with the temperature comes from a fixed list of cities, not from you.
No access to your contacts. Your address book is never read or uploaded.
No advertising, no ad trackers, no data brokers.
No audience analytics (no Google Analytics or equivalent).
No automatic crash reports. The app does not send us crash reports.

Something we would rather tell you ourselves: your messages are NOT end-to-end encrypted.

They travel over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and are stored on protected servers, but they are readable on our servers. Technically we could read them; we do not, except where the law requires it. Do not trust Magnetic with anything you would not trust to an ordinary messaging service.

We do not claim end-to-end encryption, and we will not until it is genuinely in place.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell or rent your data. We rely on four providers, solely to run the service:

Data is hosted in France.

How long we keep it

As long as your account exists, for your account and your content.
When you delete your account: your account and your posts disappear immediately for everyone. You then have 30 days to change your mind by signing back in. After that, your personal data is erased and the account anonymised, permanently.
Messages you sent to other people stay in their conversation, like a letter already delivered. They no longer carry your identity after anonymisation.

Your rights

At any time you may:

Access your data and request a copy;
Correct anything inaccurate — most of it can be edited in the app;
Delete your account and your data;
Object to processing, or ask us to restrict it;
Withdraw a consent you had given.

Write to contact@magnetic-app.com. We reply within 30 days. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may contact your competent data protection authority.

Security

Traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS.
App data on your phone is kept in an encrypted database, whose key is held by the system vault (Android Keystore).
Your sessions can be revoked; deleting your account revokes all of them at once.
No system is infallible. Should a breach be likely to affect you, we will tell you.

Children

Magnetic is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data; if we learn that an account belongs to a younger child, we delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
